New Adventure in Music City

dinner_bfore_leaving4Nashville

Had a lovely goodbye-see-you-later dinner with my family last night. ...My mom and dad are the best parents I could ask for. I'm so thankful for their love and encouragement and for being so supportive about this move to Nashville. And holy jalapeño I'm just going to miss them so much 😭💔 ...Can't say anything else cause I'll start blabbing and gushing and crying and not making sense so.... cheesy blurb over now. Look at that delicioussss food though!

Man Overboard, my New EP coming soon! Thank you to my pledgers and Pledge Music

I haven't had time to post a blog lately. As you may or may not know, I have been very busy working on new recordings and my "day job" has been scheduling me on extra shifts. In addition, I also have been spending time managing the crowdfunding campaign for the New EP. All of this work has a specific purpose though: To record new songs for me to show to my contacts in Nashville and have enough money to spend a month there pursuing my goal. Here's an excerpt from the last update to my Pledge Music campaign pledgers. If you pledged or Pre-ordered my new EP you would have gotten the full letter already.

Having some tea at the studio :)

Having some tea at the studio :)

"Since I last updated, the campaign has reached 109% of funding goal! This is awesome! After PledgeMusic fees (they need to charge something for this great crowdfunding platform), 20% of all proceeds will go to the Sick Kids Hospital Foundation in Toronto. The remaining, I will use to continue to support the music (staying in Nashville for a month is not free, of course). This Saturday, February 20, I’m flying down to Nashville for probably the 7th time. On this trip, I will have 6 new songs to show people, which YOU helped me record. These new tracks wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for your support!! I have set up meetings with some important music industry contacts (at ASCAP, NSAI, Ole, BigDeal Music and more…) and I can’t wait to show them these songs!! Even though the tracks aren’t finished yet (they’re being mixed by my producer as we speak), I think they’ll be my best recordings yet. I hope they blow people away and open new doors for me! Because I really believe I’m ready to make this making-music-thing a full time gig and a career!! And quit my waitressing job! Hahah! Making a living writing songs is my dream. But as you may know music as a business has been hurt a lot by the digital revolution. It is now harder than ever to make it in the music business. Financially it’s a real struggle to stay afloat and keep going. But I’m not giving up. Especially after all your support during this campaign…. I just want to ask you one more favor. Please send me good vibes. Whether it’s a little prayer or positive thoughts, think of me while I’m in Nashville, and wish me good luck. I think knowing that I have people in my life (family, friends, and fans) cheering me on, will give me the faith and strength to really give it my all! I wanna make you guys PROUD!!!"

Saying hello to Mr. Guitar :)

I'm so excited that many people will get to hear Fascinated on country radio in Canada!!! Thank you to CJQC and CICR in Liverpool and Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, CJDL in Tilsonburg, Ontario, and CHMM in Mackenzie, BC for being the first stations to add the song. I cannot it tell you how much it means to me that you guys believe in the song and had a space for it so soon.

Thank you to CKYC in Owen Sound, Ontario for featuring Fascinated in your "What's New This Week" show. That's awesome!

Thank you Cal Gratton of CIXM in Whitecourt, AB and CJVR in Melfort, SK for featuring the song and for interviewing me. I had a blast!!!

To all the stations in Canada who are considering featuring or playing the song, thank you so much. I am very driven to succeed in the music business and I need all the support I can get. Having said that, I understand it's a tough business (mediabase numbers, etc) and I want you to judge my songs on their merits. Everyone, I've shown Fascinated in Nashville has really liked it!  And it's out just in time for Valentine's Day!!!

Fascinated

words and music by Maddy (Madison) Rodriguez

You don’t know how long I’ve waited

To be fascinated

By someone like you

This is more than just a crush now

More than just in love now

This is something new

You don’t know how long I’ve waited

To be fascinated

By someone like you

This is more than just a crush now

More than just in love now

This is something new

Words cannot describe

Just how much I’m

Fascinated by… You-ou-ou-ou-ouuuu

You-ou-ou-ou-ouuuuu You-ou-ou-ou-ouuuuu

You-ou-ou-ou-ouuuu You-ou-ou-ou-ouuuuu You-ou-ou-ou-ouuuuu

People say you only fall in love once

But I’m not in agreement

Don’t believe it because

Every single time I’m in your presence

I fall in love again and

All over again

Oh and I can’t get enough

I wanna study you baby

Oh and I just want some more

Can’t get enough of you

Just want some more of you

You don’t know how long I’ve waited

To be fascinated

You’re already standing right beside me

But come a little closer

I wanna feel the way you breathe

Oh and I can’t get enough

Can’t get enough of you

I wanna study you baby

Oh and I just want some more

Just want some more of you

Cuz You don’t know how long I’ve waited

Fascinated (Country)

Who fascinates you? Fascinated (country) goes to Canadian Country Radio

Who Fascinates you?Fascinated (Country)

I'm very excited that Fascinated is going to radio. I'm too young to have children, but I think it feels a little like when your kid goes to school and it's her first day. I hope the kids at radio treat her well.  So far so good. According to the Canada Country Aircheck newsletter, Fascinated has been in the Top 5 DMDS downloads this week. For those of you who don't know, DMDS is the system that labels and indies use to send their songs to radio.  Keep your ears open for Fascinated on your local country station while your driving or wherever you listen. If you hear the song, let me know so I can thank that station. If your station has request hours, please request the song (if you like it, of course - I know my music is not for everyone, but hopefully you like ti). Hit me up on Facebook or tweet me @maddyrodriguez  I would love to hear from you. Also, if you want, you can play the song on Spotify or get it on iTunes

AND REMEMBER VALENTINE"S DAY is COMING. You can gift/send/share Fascinated different versions when my Fascinated EP comes out February 1st!!! xoxo I dare you to send it to that secret (or not so secret) crush. You know you have one. Lol.

xoxo Maddy

Maddy Rodriguez playing in Port Coquitlam

It’s been a good summer. I’ve been writing and playing as I work towards a move to Nashville

It's been a good summer.

Playing in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia

It’s been a good summer.  I played about 16 shows, from small ones for about 20 people, to impromptu busking sessions in downtown Toronto, to several private shows for the guests of the Via Rail train “The Canadian” (a trip that goes across Canada from Vancouver to Toronto - I was the ‘artist on board'), to a headliner spot for the City of Port Coquitlam’s Summer in The City festival, to a show at a summer camp for over 200 teens. That one was awesome! So many thanks to Centauri Arts Camp. I used to go there when I was little! You guys will always have a place in my heart! ...Besides performing, I shot material for a music video while I was on the amazing Via Rail train “The Canadian". Thanks to Via Rail and the crews. You guys rock! You made me feel so welcome and so appreciated. It was such a pleasure to play for you and all the guests whilst enjoying the beautiful Canadian views. I’ll never forget witnessing the Rocky Mountains pass by through those panoramic windows… I made many new fans and friends, and for that I am so grateful. And I must say, the food on board was DEEELICIOUS!

Now, as the summer comes to an end, I am writing, writing, writing! Lots of new songs in the oven! I’ve also been working hard at my part-time job to save money to move to Nashville for 6 months (January - June 2015). It’s a long journey and there are many bumps in the road and the mountain at the end of the journey is really big (insert more metaphors here)! …Basically, this dream of mine is crazy. As a songwriter and artist, the odds are stacked against you! There’s just so much competition. But when it’s in your heart, it’s in your heart. I love what I do and I love the difficulty of it. There’s a certain excitement, a certain magical fire that fills you up when you try to achieve something that’s nearly impossible to achieve! …I don’t know what the future holds. I don’t know if my dreams will pan out. But do any of us? Life is weird and unpredictable and all you can do is work hard, enjoy the Now and strive to make the most of what you’ve got! Well I haven’t GOT a lot of money - no big budgets for videos or million dollar recordings, no money for radio promotion (did you know it costs a ton of $$$ to get your song played on radio - even the big stars have to pay a 'radio promoter / tracker' whose job is to persuade the programmers to play the song). I haven’t got a major label deal or a #1 song on Country radio. But I’ve got passion, talent, and a love for songwriting. I’ve got little victories like my songwriting awards, and successful youtube videos like my cover of Some Nights. I’ve got many opportunities to travel and write with other writers, meet with people in the business, and play shows. Opportunities that many people would love to have, but don’t. And I’VE GOT YOU GUYS. My little fan-ily (get it? fans? family? = Fan-ily) …All of you who have listened to my music over the last few years and shown your support online or in person. I am thankful for the encouragement you’ve given me. Can’t thank you enough for enjoying my songs, for your likes and comments, for believing in me… Here’s to a great summer and here’s to what’s next! xoxoxxx

Great night at The Listening Room Cafe

I loved playing a writers round at the fantastic Listening Room Cafe in Nashville. Huge thanks to Chase for the opportunity and to my fellow writers Scott Wesley, Eric Dylan, Craig Morrison and Chris and Lolly: you guys are great. So much talent! (not in the picture - Craig Morrison).  I have a few days left in Nashville :( but I'll be back as soon as possible.
